Hi there,

Currently the room which I have my PC in is the same as the router/Modem and where the connection comes into the house.

However at some time in the future this room will become a Nursery, I then have to relocate my PC to a diff room which is currently internet connected with power line sockets.

However I would rather have it wired properly as these sockets are temperamental.

So, i need to do at least part of this now as we're having some new carpet fitted and i need to lift floor boards before this is done, otherwise the wife will be hacked off with me for lifting a new carpet if i do it afterwards.

So i was thinking that all i really want to do is have the internet cable run from the back of the Virgin router, to a socket such as this

a crimped cable from the back of the above socket to the same kind of socket in the other room and then a cable from the PC to the socket.

Will this work? in my brain it says it will as it's essentially just a extended cable with a couple of sockets on it?

for some reason the connection keeps dropping on the power line adapters which i have, i;ve tried several types so i guess it may just be some thing to do with the wiring in my house,

yea i will look for a better looking box, that was just the first one i came across to use as an example.

I'm not sure i understand what you mean 'if you're going to patch cables is it worth using a main socket with the RJ45 connection to wire into?'

Ok then, next question cat5 or 6? Can you recommend a cable? Maplin do a pay by meter service would this be ok?

Shame you're not within driving distance, i have some drums of cat5e and cat6 you could have.
Are you flush or surface mounting your boxes? your screwfix link surface mounted, but obviously flush is better if you can do it.

Cheers for the offer,

i'll probably surface mount them as it means that i dont have to mess about hacking a hole in the wall which is brick - , the boxes would both be pretty well hidden anyhow.
