I have a router wired to my PC and wired to my mum's PC. My sister connects her laptop via wireless. Our ISP is Newnet and i've set up all PCs to use OpenDNS.

Recently the internet on my mum's PC has just been going through periods of going dog-slow. I turned it on now to have a look and it was fine, then all of a sudden nothing would load. The everything would just go really slow. Occasionally Windows would popup a message saying the cable has been disconnected

I've tried a different ethernet cable, into different ports on the router and it still happens. Right now i just did some tracerts to the BBC and to Googlemail (which she uses).

It's very odd. Here's her results (from when it's been playing up):
Code:

We're both going through the same connection on the same router, so i really dont understand this  Let alone why it's just started! And those tracerts were taken within moments of each other, i.e. when hers is bad, mine is fine.

EDIT: And just now trying to edit in her tracerts from her PC, it just got completely stuck submitting the edit, about 5 times in a row. And the silly message saying a network cable is unplugged came up too

Hi Scam - does sound a bit broken, have you tried changing the duplex settings on the card? Going into the hardware config for the card and setting to 100 full or back to auto?
Just a thought - may not do anything at all, you never know... :)

Hmn that didnt seem to do anything. I just had a look round the book, and bugger it's an onboard ethernet connection. It's a Dell Dimension 4600 which about a year ago i completely reformatted etc.. I'm going to have a look around for drivers for it, but i bet there arent any new ones!

Aye my mate has a spare one that i'm gonna try. Let's hope that's the problem, otherwise does anyone else have any ideas what it could be?
