network card

I would personally always try to avoid wireless for gaming. In some situations it may be good enough, but there are many cases where it'll be a problem for real time stuff. I would try go for a wired connection personally for gaming, but if that isn't as much as an option for you then getting a wireless card will not be too expensive, and if it doesn't work well enough it isn't much of a loss. As for particular brands of wireless adapter I'm afraid I don't have much experience in knowing which ones are better and which to avoid, sorry.

Wireless was ok for gaming for me, but one day it started to act up and continued to do so after making many changes in an attempt to fix the problem. In the end, I went with a wired connection which is certainly more stable.

Wired will always be better than wireless. Especially 2.4Ghz - it's so saturated.

After a year of wrestling with wireless, gigabit powerline, I've finally bitten the bullet and just put a direct cat5e cable in. Trunking in the living room which the wife has yet to see :D

But you can't beat a direct connection.
