Hey guys, just curious, do network cards actually make a difference?

Im currently on 60mb download and 16mb upload bt fibre optic, yet i have a massive ping at 18-20, but my 8mb orange dsl, i had about 13-15 ping, i kind of want to get my ping lower,

anyway down to the question, what will, lets say, a bigfoot netork card do?

Thanks guys :D

Any modern network interface is fine for home use, including built in efforts from the likes of Broadcom and Intel. Cards like the Killer Bigfoot or whatever it's called are a load of rubbish IMO. Some folk believe in them, all they really do offload processing of network traffic from the CPU to their own processor and RAM. Nowadays it's even less important than when they first appeared, as CPUs and system RAM have moved on leaps and bounds. You can't control what happens to packets as soon as they leave your router, let along what is happening on the way back, your difference in ping is likely down to how and where your ISP routes traffic.

18-20ms ping is hardly massive either, I've been kicking ass on CSS/Quake3/Live for years at 40+ :p
