Network connection issues

Hi

My house is hardwired it has network sockets on the walls they then got to a cupboard were the ends of the Cat5 wires are

it has been working fine for about 1 year then it started to get random disconnections and slow speeds

on checking the wires the end that have the rj45 connectors have play in them ie will move left and right within the rj45 plug.

is this normal?
do i need a better rj45 plug?
would i be better taking each wire to a socket and then using patch leads?

HELP!
 
There’s always some rattle room for the plugs within the sockets.

Terminating to a patch panel or faceplates is usually the preferred option.

If the cabling has worked for about a year I’d be looking elsewhere for your problem. Still worth testing the continuity with a basic network cable tester.

Is the cabling your responsibility or something you inherited?
 
But if they’ve been working fine then it’s unlikely that’s cabling is the issue unless you’ve had a good old root about in the cables going into the switch.

Could you describe your network in more detail please? What kind of ISP connection (FTTC, FTTP, Virgin etc.), what model of router, switch, wireless access points you have and what devices are slow and/or losing connections?
