Network connection keeps dropping, if i turn the router on and off, it then sorts it.

Hi, for the past 6 months my router seems to be playing up a wee bit, every now and again the internet connection drops, both on my pc-connected via ethernet cable, and also my fathers-sisters laptop 'wireless' all i do is turn the router on and off again and this sorts the problem yet it is really anoying when watching anything on the internet. Or if im out i constantly get phone calls asking what to do to sort the internet.

I have a Belkin router2.4ghz wireless, its rougly 5to6 yrs old :/

Does any one have any tips on how to sort this problem as im going traveling for a year in 2 months and i want a system set up that dosent need to be faffed around with and just works.
