Network crashes

hello

i use a modem router and download torrents a lot and i have to limit the incoming connections because otherwise it crashes my network connection at the pc end.
and i have to restart the pc. but it also make the pc respond very slowly when shutting down.

i have an asus 975 chipset board (pre conroe) cant remeber quite which one it is but if ya need to know i will look on the board.

any advice would be greatly appreciated
