Hi,

Looking for some advice on my expanding my current home network, looking to move over to some 10G in the near future, currently have 10G cards in the home server and my PC but expecting this to expand down the line and aiming to add an 8port 10G unmanaged switch to my current 24port 1G unmanaged switch.

My query is basically in regards to how I should connect multiple switches to my router. Am I better of connecting them in parallel (i.e. both directly plugged into the router) or in series, daisy chaining the switches (i.e. router - 10G switch - 1G switch)? Or will it make no difference?

Many thanks in advance!

Your 10Gb switches should be daisy-chained so you don't go through your (presumably) 1 Gb router. I have a 1 Gb router, two 8 port 10 Gb switches, and a 1 Gb switch in use and my config is

1 Gb Router (internet) - 10 Gb switch (office PCs) - 10 Gb switch (servers) - 1 Gb switch (living room / TV stack).

Just so you know. It's far cheaper to use sfp+ cards with dac cables than 10gbe nics. In terms of power usage.
