I've been given a problem to solve for a friends office workplace. Small accountants.
They have 3 PC's that connect to a switch that run Sage. They are separate to the 'main' network and have no internet access, or access to the other PC's...I'm assuming it's so other employees can't get access to Sage data.
The 'main' network PC's are connected up to a wireless broadband router.
They have bought wireless dongles in an attempt to gain internet access through the broadband router.
They tell me that when they are plugged in the 3 Sage PC's lose connectivity with each other.
How would you go about working around this issue?
My initial thought was why are they losing connectivity with each other when they are plugged into dedicated switch on a separate network?
I don't have a lot more info except a quick phone call and won't know much more until I pop in and take a look, but would like to go prepared with some answers. It may lead to a few quid in my direction
Running a cable from the switch to a port on the router and creating a VLAN was my first attempt at solving it, but I don't know the capabilities of the hardware or whether running a cable is actually possible, bearing in mind I'm expecting it to be something like a BT business ADSL line...
They do have a couple of quid to spend though, at least enough to get this sorted anyway. Not talking loads mind!
Thoughts?
