Network help (subnetting)

Yes it is.

Am i not allowed to ask? Sorry if not.

I do understand the assignment and i understand how VLSM's work, this is the only part im stuck on the actual figuring out how many subnets I need.

You're allowed to ask for help, but giving the complete problem and asking for a solution aka doing your homework is not allowed.

Try stating what you've done so far, and specifically what you're stuck on, etc. If you're totally stuck, ask a classmate or lecturer :)

why cant you just tell him? whats *** big deal even if you do do his homework its a forum we're not 'teachers' we discuss

Ok,

This is my network address 192.168.9.0

So ive decided to go for a 255.255.255.224 subnet mask (/27) which will give me 6 usable subnets with 30 hosts on each.

SN1 - Servers - 192.168.9.33 - 37
SN2 - Remote sales 192.168.9.65 - 69
SN3 - Admin 192.168.9.97 - 103
SN4 - Sales 192.168.9.129 - 137
SN5 - R+D 192.168.9.161 - 180

Can anyone see a problem with this in relation to the topology?

Am i correct in giving each group a subnet?

Edit: btw beansprout, this is part 2/5 of the assignment, so there is lots i have allready done.

Thanks in advance

Because the student will never learn if just given the answer. It is called ethics. He gets a grade A for work that he hasn't done.

The UK government are trying to crack down on this in a big way.

Hey i agree with you on this.

I am not trying to get people to do the assignment, i am just asking for some guidance and assistance with working out how many subnets i need. That’s all.

Its such a small part that i am stuck with...

CaSh_MoNeY - cool, just checkin' ;) :)

Because I haven't worked the answer out - I have my own stuff to revise for :p

ON a more serious note, the forums aren't here to do people's homework for them - especially assignments, which comes under plagiarism. Well - not if he says "my friends did this for me" - but then he'd get no marks.

Anyway - end of - on with the thread. Feel free to contact a moderator over e-mail if you'd like to discuss the rules :)

Thats a bit of a high horse you're on their mate, some people need a bit of help sometimes and i can tell you from someone who does a networking degree, a lot of the lectureres are not helpful at all.

I would use VSLM and as there isnt a linear distribution of hosts in each subnet assigning all subnets a /27 mask would waste a lot of address space.

Using a network of 192.168.1.0

/27 for the largest segment - 30 Hosts per subnet, 4 Subnets
/29 for the smaller segments - 6 Hosts per subnet, 32 Subnets

Im thinking along the lines of Cisco whether this is what your studying im not sure. Also i dont know the brief there may be a need for future expansion as such masks allowing a larger number of hosts would be needed.

A bit of help is fine but the point was made "why cant you just tell him?"

This matter is not for discussion. Thats the way it is. It is not allowed.

Thanks for the advice, think im going to go down this route <-- no pun intended.

I was wasting loads of address using the /27. I am going to use a /29 for the servers as I only need 5 address. The other groups will be changed also.

Where is it then? :D
