I have a netgear WG302 wireless access point, and a thomson speedtouch tg585v7 adsl modem/router. I want to use the speedtouch as the modem and wired ethernet router, and then connect the WG302 (which has much better range among other things) for wireless users.

The modem connects to the internet fine, and the wired ports work fine.

Wireless user can see and connect to the WAP (with it connected via ethernet to the router), however whilst connected, wireless users do not have internet access.

Now this is where I need help (assuming I'm not being a complete numpty and what I want to do isn't possible with this hardware).

Could somebody give me a checklist or point me to a guide of what I'm doing wrong? I can post up the configs of both peices of hardware if that will help?

depending on the routers

disable dhcp on the wireless router, this will force the wireless clients to get an ip from the adsl router

however this does not always work.. so..

change the scope on the adsl router to give out 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.100 and set the wireless router to give out 192.168.0.101 - 192.168.0.200

dont forget to set the dns / default date way correct... (default gateway on the DHCP for the wireless router will be the adsl router)

i guess your wireless router is giving out IP's on a differetn subnet...
