Ok guys see if you can diagnose this one.

I've got a switch with a number of devices connected. I've disconnected them all and just got the Xbox connected. Game ping is 10 - 20 ish.

Now when I connect the sky mini box the ping is jumping to 160ms.

I've played about with the sky's network settings included leaving it on default. And setting a specific IP. Still the same issue.

Any ideas?
 
Sounds like a network loop. Is WiFi enabled on the Sky box? Try disabling it. I had no end of issues with them in the past and just used WiFi alone, cabling them always had unpredictable behaviour.

Leave the Sky mini box connected wirelessly, nothing it does needs a wired link and it tries to create a bridge in some situations
 
That might have sorted it. WiFi and ethernet was on at the same time. Used the engineers menu to turn it off and rebooted the router and the other switches in the house and no issues as yet
