Hope you guys can help.

I run computer engine chess programmes which by there very nature use a lot of processing power close to 100% on some engines. You can set the programme to think when its not its turn, basically when its thinking for any length of time (1 second or more) the connection to the website i'm playing on drops out then reconnects and major lag upto 20 seconds can occur, when i turn the thinking off it stops with no issues (0.222 ping), my internet connection is very good with a full 20mb/s and 22ms pings to local servers. The chess engine can use all 4 cores but it also did it when i told it to use only 2 cores. I might add my cpu is overclocked to 4.2ghz and is generally stable with no heating issues even under load, though i do get the occasional lockup. (perhaps once a week). Why should there be serious lag under above normal cpu loads?

Windows 7 home 64bit
Intel i5 3570k @4.182ghz
16gb 1800mhz Corsair Vengeance ram
Cpu temps while chess engines computing @ 90% load (30'-47c')
H80 Cpu watercooler

Thanks in anticipation.

How are you connecting to the network, are you using onboard LAN or a dedicated NIC?
First thing I would try is make sure you have the latest chipset and network drivers.

When i say Network i did mean the internet just in case you thought i was refering to an internal network, and yes i'm using the standard on board lan. All drivers appear to be up to date.

Does your motherboard have multiple LAN ports? If so, I recommend trying the other one as often the network controllers are from different manufacturers (e.g. Realtek and Marvell) and it could be that one of them suffers under high cpu usage.
