Network loft install - Switch suggestions

Hi,

I am looking for suggestions on a good network switch which will be installed in the loft and needs a minimum of 16 ports (24 port switches also considered) PoE ports a plus. It will be installed in a wall mounted 9U rack with all the cables running into the loft from the single floor property. The loft is insulated but will still have some range in temps throughout the year. Ideally it will be future proof with the PoE which would allow me to add CCTV easily to the network.

Any recommendations welcome or if you have had a bad experience with any switched please also share.

Many thanks,
Dan

Are you wanting gigabit ports on the switch or 10/100. if you are wanting gigabit ports then it will narrow the options down for you, what with including POE ports as well.

I'd go non PoE, then add an 8 port PoE if you need it. Power consumption is so much lower on a non PoE switch.

Recently picked up a Trendnet TEG-240WS (D1.0R), gigabit, fanless, low power usage, supports teaming (this is why I bought it)

Yeah, sorry forgot to mention gigabit ports are needed.

I was looking at the TL-SG1024 & the TL-SG1024D - Are there any other differences between these apart from looks and the TL-SG1024 is only rackmount and no desktop option?

Looked at the JGS516 & JGS524 and been put off switches with fans as they need cleaning more frequent.

Like the idea of just getting an 8port PoE in the future if the feature is required.

I was also surprised to see that OCUK don't stock 6U-15U 19" data cabinets etc.

Hi Dandubi there is no real difference between the TL-SG1024 and the TL-SG1024D apart from some dimensions. This would be a great option to go for with a TL-SG1008PE for the future which is the 8 port POE switch. We have used a couple of these recently to add in more Phones for our tech support team.

Bledd. That is the best thing I have seen all week with the Lack tables from Ikea. I have 2 of those sat doing nothing in my garage. Will have to think about using them like that in the future.

Adam Hall 9u 19" music kit rack went for £12 on a well known but tax avoidance site recently
