Hi,

Need some advice on network monitoring software, I will be starting a new position in May and I want to be able to:

1, View what computers on the network doing (their screen view)

2, Screen lock individual computers (remotely)

3, Be able to tell if they are using p2p software (utorrent etc)

There should be about 30 computers on the network if that makes a difference.

1: Why?

2: What's wrong with a group policy to do this after X minutes?

3: Implement one of many software scanning tools to check for installed programs on logon. Or you could just block ports.

I will be teaching a class and the students love to play on games rather than work. They can easily hide what they are doing by the time I get to their workstation. I want to lock them out if I find them doing anything shouldnt be for a short time.

Then you need to introduce internet policy to lockdown access to stop them getting to the websites in the first place.

Also be aware that snooping like that bring other legal complications. However if you remember anything of your school days, you should already realise this is a futile task :)

I still think using this software is still the best bet with kids knowing about proxy servers and things. I am not sure about legal factors better check on that to be sure.
