hi all, ok i have a couple of problems, so i have turned my spare pc into a media centre ( windows 10 ) which is in the living room behind tv, i have a gaming pc in the computer room, the internet enters the house in the computer room, to an asus ac68 u, which my gaming pc is connected to, i then have a cable running through walls to my living room, to a small 5 port hub which then connects my spare pc, bt youview box, 5tb network attached hdd and iptv box to the internet, anyway my network is intermittent as in sometimes my pc's will show on the network and sometimes they wont, but neither of my pc's will see the other, but my network hdd can always been seen by both pc's,

also i want to get rid of the network hdd and put some large hdd's into the media pc, but need to access the from my gaming pc, so i was wandering how freenas or unraid work and if i would be better using them on the spare pc, any thoughts would be a great help.

You'd open Explorer and type something like \\computer-name\share-name into the address bar.

Far more reliable than browsing for computers on the network. You just need to know the names of what you're wanting to access.

no it wont let me connect that way, network trouble shooter opens and says dns server not available, but does not resolve it.

i have checked the dns server address and they are both the same, and the ipv4 addy is the same apart from the last 3 numbers,

ok i have managed to sort it, one pc had file sharing password on, and i had to go into advanced sharing, add everyone, and add permissions, it still does not show up in networks, so then i had to connect via unp and map network drives, so all is good i think now cheers for the help
