I am messing with my network, and have what I hope is a simple question. I've simplified the setup for the purposes of the question!

I have a Netgear Managed Switch with three PC's on the ports. Two PC's are connected to their own 1gps port on the switch. The third is connected to a 10gbps port.

Can I transfer files from the two 1gps PC's simultaneously to the 10gps PC, expecting the performance to be about 2gbps? ( Ignoring such problems as whether the disks are fast enough in PC 3. ).

The file transfer will limited to the speed of the slowest part of the network common to all the PCs so 1Gb not 2Gb. This is because the slowest network switches are running at 1Gb.

I think Marc may have misread your post.

If they're all on the same switch, you should indeed see 2gbps traffic to the 10gb port.

Good, that is what I was thinking. I mean it seems obvious because otherwise there would be no point in having 10g ports on the switch! But I thought I would ask, because even though this is only for fun I don't want to buy stuff and then found out I had made an idiot mistake. And yes, I was uncertain how to word it, sorry MarcLister if I was confusing.
