Is there a way to reset the cache \ data files that hold the connection data for the 'Network' window?

Like, when in the Network window that has a list of all the computers on your network?

Cause recently, when I've been clicking on a computer it will not connect and throws up the diagnose or cancel error message saying the computer could not be found. Whereas if I type in the \\IP Address I can access the computers fine with no problems.

Just wondering why I can't click the icons? I transfer a lot of files and it's annoying having to type the ip for every computer into the address bar :(

There is a setting that disables checking for scheduled tasks when browsing the network. This can speed up things considerably if you’re on a larger network. This hack works on Windows 2000/2003/XP and Vista.

As with any registry edits, you might want to back it up before making any changes.

Perform the following steps:

1. Click Start > Run, type regedit and click OK.

Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
then SOFTWARE
then Microsoft
then Windows
then CurrentVersion
then Explorer
then RemoteComputer
then NameSpace

Right-click on {D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF} and select Delete.

Click Yes to confirm deletion.

After you restart the computer, network browsing should be faster

Thanks for the tip mate :)

I can still access the network fine, however I cannot access computers by clicking on the computer icon within the Network folder. This causes a message to be returned stating that the device could not be found.

I have to manually enter the devices IP address into the address bar to access devices.
