Network Port Not Recognised

Hi there,

My uncle (who doesn't have a great need for a computer) finally decided to get broadband in his house and has THIS laptop here.

Now it appears he has given someone his laptop to try "upgrade" and it's had XP put on it (which i'm not to familiar with). The only problem is the lan port is not recognised and the only one there is "Microsoft Loopback Ethernet" (i'm not sure if this is exact as i don't have the computer to hand).

Now i have an old pcmcia wireless card i was just going to install and give him (as his broadband came with a wireless router) but to save me doing this was hoping i could get the network card working (which i'm guessing is built into the motherboard).

Does anyone have any tips or some sort of way to troubleshoot this problem.

I've looked in the BIOS and the port has not been disabled...and i loooked in Device Manager and there is are no unknown devices...

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.
