We have a Windows domain.
One of our servers is our designated print server.
For aguments sake it is called:
uk-ser-print1
As you can see, not the easiest name to remember in the world.
On this server is approx. 10 printers.
Each printer has been installed, given a unique name and then both the 32bit & 64bit drivers have been made available.
Any user can simply:
Browse to \\uk-ser-print1
Find the printer they want, double-click it and installation is automatic.
We decided to try and make life a little easier for users.
We added a second A record for this server, simply called "printers".
So, users can now also browse to:
\\printers
This works, it brings up all of the printers available on that server.
However, if a user double-clicks on one they get the error message:
operation could not be completed error 0x00000709
Now I'm assuming this is because we are browsing to the server using the A record of printers.
Rather than the correct host name of uk-ser-print1
Is there any way around this?
Being able to keep the server with the same name we want (for internal reasons) but also give it a friendly name and still allow automated printer installation?
