hello,
having some dns problems i think

i have my main computer connected to the net. it works fine, i can ping (and access) ips and domains. (this computes ip on the network is 192.168.0.2)

another comptuer is connected via a crossover cable. this can ping ips, but not domains.(this computes ip on the network is 192.168.0.3)

what settings do i need to change? i've tried setting the dns server on the second computer to the ip of the first, but it doesn't help.

thanks

yeh i think so

if i get the ip for google.com, i can ping it (and access it in IE) on the second computer. Just can't access google.com via its domain...

Edit - i've just noticed something
I can ping from second computer to main, and get a reply
I can't ping from main to second (they time out)

Ok i got it working now :)

I found what dns servers i was using on my main computer and set it as that

But ... it only works if on my main computer zone alarm is set to Medium (for internet zone security/trusted zone security)

How can i make it so i can still have it on high?

Is it something to do with zones?

What do i add?

Thank you for your contribution to the thread, vent..

EffBee - thanks for that. Seems like a lot of work, everytime i reboot. Might just get another firewall... :)
