Hi all,

About two hours ago I had a power cut but when the power came back on I now have "IGD-1.0 on Linksys" in my toolbar. My network seems to be working 24/7 even when idle the computers in the corner are working all the time.

Any idea's what has caused this?

I was using wireless before but as I don't need to use it at the moment I would like to go back to wired, so I have disabled my wireless network and I am now using a wired network - you don't think this is anything to do with it?!

Any help would be great.

EDIT:

I just disabled UPnP and it has gone away. But I have another problem. The internet has become extremely slow and it is now connected at 4MB and is downloading at about 1-2MB - It was connected at 8MB yesterday... The SNR is just 6 and it was about 10... Any Idea's how this could happen|? I am on BT MaxDSL.

Are you sure is was a power cut and not a spike that knocked out the area? sounds like the phone lines have been affected during the power outage give them an hour or two and they should come back up to full speed.

We are having loads of work done on our house and the stupid dumb builders plugged something in and left it outside in the rain, so it cut the power.

The SNR is now 3dB... I have never seen it that low and it is still connected at just 4MB. I don't understand how the SNR can drop that much... What on earth can cause it to drop ?

This might not be related to the power cut as I haven't checked the speed for a while, so I don't know if it is related.

I just done the new BT speed test, can someone tell me what "IP profile" means?

The BRAS limit et al. As the name suggests, it's the maximum IP throughput you'll get.

This might be useful.

I found the problem, someone had taken one of the filters off the phones. It's back up to 8128Kbps now, but how long will it be untill the BRAS is back up to 8128? It is still on 3500k at the moment.

I phoned BT and asked them if they could put it back up, but the woman didn't know what the BRAS profile was and she could barely speak english.

"Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:
IP profile for your line is - 3500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 3205 kbps"

Thanks.

Ok, thanks. I will wait a few days and if it doesn't go back up I will try phoning BT again.

The BRAS has gone up to 6MB.
I now get the following results from BT speed test:
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:
IP profile for your line is - 6000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 7648 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 5100 kbps

But on ADSL guide I am downloading at about 3MB.

How come I am not actualy downloading at around 5MB?

Try some other speed tests as they can give varying results, or download from servers known to be fast, like microsoft.com. At least the BT speedtest means your line is working at the right speed :)

Thanks. Just tried it on microsoft's website and It's about 500KB/Sec - Is that about that? On Zen's website it was 180KB/Sec!
