I have a netgear dg834 modem and want to connect my laptop which is downstairs to my network without running cables up and down the stairs.

I looked into buying a Netgear Wall Internet Powerline Adapter Bridge XE102 but I would need two of these right? They cost around £30 from ocuk but thats only for one. Would I need one connected upstairs and one connected downstairs?

How do these things work.

You need to plug one powerline adapter in next to your router/modem and connect it via an ethernet cable. You can then connect another (or multiple) powerline adapters around the house - as long as they are on the same electrical ring.

I use one on the opposite side of my house and have a wireless access point plugged into it to extend my wireless network.
