Network & Router Problem

After researching into using two routers together I decided to give it a go, basically I wanted a better wireless signal to my 2 laptops as my main router is downstairs (BeBox Speedtoutch 780) I had a Belkin F5D7633uk laying around, which supports 125Mbps as do the wireless cards in the laptop.

My setup is like this just to give you some sort of an Idea

Main Router ------- (Wireless) X2 Laptops.

|_______ My Computer Upstairs ***Belkin Router***

Now here is my problem :p I reset the default settings in the Belkin router plugged the Ethernet cable coming upstairs into the back then ran another Ethernet cable to my pc, It seemed everything was spot on I had internet access on my PC basically it was all set up and working fine. Now when I try to access the Belkins interface via 192.168.2.1 nothing shows up, I can connect to the Speedtoutch router fine and access the config page etc but I need access to the Belkins settings as the wireless on the router is open and everybody near me can connect to it and use my 15Meg unlimited download speed

I’ve tried to plug the belkin into the pc only but I still can’t connect to 192.168.2.1 somewhere it’s got totally messed up

Sorry if this sounds like gibberish I can’t explain it any better :p

Have you got the Belkin DHCP turned OFF ?

What IP does your computer get that is connected to the Belkin router ?

WHat IP address does the computer downstairs get ?

Yep DHCP is off on the Belkin router, all the computers get there IP addresses from the speedtouch router.

This is the IP issued to my PC which is directly connected to the Belkin router.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm confused, how come you have 2 routers if all the connections go through the speedtouch router?

So am I :p The reason being I had a Belkin laying around doing nothing at all so I thought to myself I could Improve my wireless signal as the Speedtouch is downstairs and my laptops are upstairs, In certain parts upstairs I cannot connect to the speedtouch because of the poor wireless range, also my Belkin supports 125Mbps so I can share much quicker between the laptops & PC's.

I'm no network engineer but i would have thought the second router would need to be on the same subnet as your main router for it all to talk to each other?

If you have reset the belkin router and its IP is 192.168.2.1 then i would directly connect a laptop or PC to it and configure the laptop or PC to auto assign network address and try connecting to the belkin router that way.

How do you know DHCP on the Belkin router is turned off if you can't connect to its interface?

Make sure the LAN IP of the belkin is on the same range as the speedtouch's LAN IP. IE set the belkin's LAN IP to 192.168.1.253

Because your belkin is set to 192.168.2.x you can't configure it, even through you can get a connection from it. Clear as mud?

To make the changes you might need to reset the belkin and connect it to your PC and start again (you could set your IP manually but it might complicate things)

When I first connected the Belkin to my PC only I could load up 192.168.2.1 there I reset all the setting's to factory default which turn off everything including passwords, NAT, DHCP etc basically everything apart from the open wireless. I thought I could configure the router once it’s all connected up to the network wrong :( I cannot get 192.168.2.1 to load up, I’ve even tried the laptop connected directly to the Belkin's wireless and that doesn’t even let me access the config page, somewhere the default gateway of the Belkin has changed and I don’t know what to

Edit: As strange as this seems I cannot reset the belkin? there is a reset button under the router but this only resets the box no the settings.

Ok so, change the network settings on the laptop to auto assign, connect it to the Belkin router and do an ipconfig /all

What do you get?

Right looks like the problem is solved :D

I've managed to connect the Belkin router to my laptop and boom 192.168.2.1 apperead :) Ive just changed all the settings on the Belkin and all looks very promising, I can now connect to the Belkin's config page via 192.168.1.253 just as Zap suggested and everything look all ok.

Does this look ok?

Thanks for the reply's and help guys :)
