Network Scanner

Getting random network slow downs and issues here, thinking of using an old laptop, plugging it in and using it to scan the network.

Are there any decent tools that'll sit on the machine, either a tool or a disty that I can bang on a CD/DVD and run it for a few days to sniff about and see where issues might be coming from...?!

Yeah I did see that before, I dont have a drive with me right now to get this laptop up and running hence the live disty route, I'll have to dig a drive out I guess and bang a quick Win7 install on there..

Why do you want to scan the network, and for what?

You'll have to give detailed information about the slow downs and issues.

Seems pretty random at the mo hence wanting to scan it to see if theres anything obvious broadcasting etc..
