Network setup

Hi folks,

I hope someone can help and my apologies if this is long-winded.

I have upgraded to 2.5gig internet speed. Previously it was 1 gig. My last devices were 1gig capable with a supplier router in modem mode, 1x Honor 3 router and 1x Honor 3 as an Access Point. All was good.

I now have the new supplier router as the main router and the 2x Honor 3's as access points in bridge mode which simply doesn't 'seem' to be working properly. I am aware that they can only be used as 1gig max connections. They are old now and I think I should replace them. When I stand very close to one the Wi-Fi signal is about 50-60% which is why I don't think they are working or set properly.

A diagram of how my home is shown/attached. I want wired devices that are capable of 2.5gig wired to the ethernet switches and knowing that Wi-Fi will max at 1gig.
Should the current setup work? or is there a better way to achieve full Wi-Fi signal at both AP's?
What AP's would you recommend to use? preferably with 2.5G Wan inputs to maximise bandwidth.

You're going to have to have a near perfect (and expensive) setup to continuously go over 1 Gbps. If you need that kind of bandwidth, just use a £4 cable.

I may not have explained it as well as i should have. I am aware that the Wi-Fi will only reach a maximum of 900 odd mb/s. probably averaging about 300-400mbs upwards. That is fine. all my hard wired will get damn near full speed the majority of the time. I know the speed limitations and that connected devices will affect each connection.
What I want is for the Wi-Fi signals to be as strong as possible when beside each AP because as I said in my original post, currently when I stand beside one of them I get a signal of about 50-60%. I'd have assumed that a signal of 95-100% signal strength would be expected. That's also why I'm doubting the old honor 3 AP's are working correctly.
As it stands, going by my image, should I be getting 95-100% as they are both connected to the router with ethernet cables?

Your proposed setup looks okay to me. I suggest using Flint 2 routers as your APs as they're cheap, have two 2.5Gbps ports and excellent Wi-Fi 6. I put one in as my router and took out the upstairs AP.

It's working in the sense that I am receiving a signal but seeing as standing right on top of one AP in particular I'm only getting 50-60% I don't think that that one is working or maybe set up correctly. I haven't done channel scanning and don't know how to because I can't get to any AP's login screen as I don't know the IP address for it and even the Mac address doesn't show in the routers connected devices as I read (possibly here?) that because it's a wired AP that is never had it needs to request an IP from the router?

I bought a flint 2 but refused delivery for refund because having to buy 2 would be a little too dear for me. I've ordered these instead Link to product to see if they will do what is required.
If needed though I will buy two flint 2's if I really have to.

Are you sure that you're actually connecting to the Honor nodes and not still connected to the main router.

From your description, previously it sounded like you had a bunch of Honor devices working as a mesh so your device could hop to the nearest access point for best signal.

Now they sound like you've got a router with wifi and some access points with wifi, but not a mesh so your devices won't hop to the nearest access point.

I think your honor access points default to 192.168.3.1 in bridge mode.

Thanks for your replies everyone. The Cudy AP's arrived today. What a breeze to install. I now get 99-100% all over my flat. I did a speed test on my phone over WiFi and I got 1200 Mbps down and 1300 up! I didn't know that was possible ‍
Well worth the £99 for the twin pack. The Honors will be disposed of shortly. They were a pain to get working in my setup.
