Hi guys,

Me and my friend are trying to share some files over a network but we're having a bit of an issue.

He's using a wireless dongle and I'm wired directly to the router. We're on the same "WORKGROUP" and he can ping me as I can ping him but we can't actually share any files. I can actually see his files and take them from his computer but he gets "The network path was not found" while trying to connect to mine.

We're also on the same "Homgroup" which is a windows 7 feature afaik (maybe it came with vista also).

We're both running the 64bit version of Windows 7.

Any help is appreciated :)

EDIT *We've also disabled both firewalls*

On both computers, go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change advanced sharing settings (top left). Make sure they look like the following (they won't be like this by default):

Once you've done that and hit Save Changes on both PCs (you may need to reboot) you should be able to use the libraries/homegroup and public sharing facilities. I have a feeling the password protected sharing being enabled is what's tripping you up, as your friend won't have the same user account and password on his PC = auto fail.

The only thing we had different was the password option, I'm copying some files from him at the moment so I can't restart but I'll give that a try for sure.

Cheers mate :)
