I'm looking for a little bit of help and guidance with a network issue we currently have.

Current Setup.

We have a Mac Mini with two external hard drives - several users accessing this via Mac's on a daily basis. Artworking, Indesign documents etc.

I'm looking at changing this setup, as i know what we have at the moment isn't sufficient. (Files taking ages to load, documents crashing and not recovering)

Potential New Setup

Looking at the possibility of switching over to a NAS, QNAP TS251+ possibly with 2x4TB drives in RAID.

Does anyone else have any other suggestions or ideas.

Ideally we need something that is reliable and can withstand multiple users accessing fairly large docs at one time.

dont buy QNAP pretty orrid UI & customer support

go synology

look at
Synology DS216PLAY 2 Bay Desktop Enclosure

has built in server support (dhcp etc) as you can also run services on it such as Kodi, plex and media servers.

my synology has been running on for 1.5 years without issue

they release new firmware at least once a month with new features/security updates

try out the online virtual UI (little bit slower than local DSM but you can check everything it can do

Ideally we'd be looking at using it as file storage, so kodi, plex media servers probably isn't necessary?

Just need something, reliable, fast read and write, capable of allowing multiple users access and work off files from the NAS directly.
