Hi, I have a very strange and extremely frustrating problem (I am litterally fuming as I write this because I am so fed up with how **** my internet is!).

When I first turn on my PC and start using the internet, everything is fine, all sites load fast, 1080P video loads fast on YouTube, and speedtest.net shows that I am getting 18 - 19Mb/s of my 20Mb/s broadband.

But then the network randomly just stops, I still have a 5 bar connection, or a successful connection (depending on whether I am using wired or wireless) but pages just wont load, even if I restart the browser, messages wont go through in IM clients etc.

If I unplug the wireless network adapter or ethernet cable and then plug it back in again straight away, the network speed is fine again for a little while, and then does the same thing again.

This has been happening more and more recently. I have used two different wireless adapters and a wired connection on two different machines, the same thing happens every time.

I have no idea what is going on. Virgin Media are shockingly terrible, and I hate them sure, but this can't be the actual connection can it? Given the nature of what happens. I thought it might be because I have exceeded my download limit, but it is unlimited. Please help me, I am at that stage where I just want to punch the crap out of something.

*edit* it has got to the point now where I have to re-plug the adapter about once every 10 seconds... ¬_¬

Sounds like one or more of the machine might have malware sending out traffic and choking the bandwidth.

Time to try one machine at a time on the network and the usual virus / malware scans.

It seems to only be on the one machine. I am using a different machine now, just restarting the other one. Then I will run scans.

So it happens on only one machine or multiple?

I *think* it might just be this one, but it isn't happening right now. I am currently running a full virus scan. It occurs randomly, but when it does happen, it is as I described in the original post.

This happens to me sometimes, once it stabilises the connection speed in the task bar I usually get about 3-4 bars. When it's plugged it goes to full bars. Must be inaccurate to start with.
