After a spate of break-ins to my shed, i'm getting a wireless webcam (Y-Cam White Knight) to point at it. I'd like to get this talking to my wireless router and hang some storage off the router (one of the ethernet ports) to hold the video capture.

My question is:

Anyone any recommendations as to a decent-sized, low-power, relatively easy-configuration NAS-type solution that will suit my needs?

I'll be recording at 640*480 at about 25-30fps, and will probably want to store a day or maybe 2 days at most. Logic being if there isnt a break in, i wont need to keep it and can just delete it each night (or morning).

Cheers,

M

The QNAP NAS's have the surveillance station feature, this allows you to record from I think 4 IP Network Camera's directly to it self, no PC interaction required..

I am not sure if the regular NAS will support the Y-CAM though, they do support it on the NVR range.. but there are cheap DLink IP camera's they do support.

It's certainly worth checking out!

I'd recommend the TS109-II or TS209-II (more memory)

Wooo. Y-Cam is supported by the NVR series. :)

Further reading required methinks.

Thanks for the heads up.

In this thread, on their forums..

They are adding Y-CAM White and Black support either Feb/March (so imminent!) for the TSxx9 series!

A TS209 is almost £100 cheaper then the NVR101, and it's also useful for a lot of other duties!

I'll keep my eyes open then. :)

I was hoping I could simply choose to record over ethernet to a standard NAS drive, but i've clearly been too simplistic in my thinking - glad I posted here. :)

I'll wait to hear that the cheaper QNAP supports YCam and then pop in an order.

Great!
