Always on the M1.....
Have just had house rewired with Ethernet cabling whilst rewiring the leccy and now just need something to sit between the wires and the broadband. There are 9 wires in total to come into the switch(?) and then the link in from the broadband.

Obviously the broadband router can't cope with this number of wires and I assume i will need a switch to sit between the router and all these connections. Not all of them will be used straight away, but I figured if the house is being rewired, then I may as well install cabling in at the same time for future proofing!

Has anyone got any experience of any of OcUK's switches that would work well in this environment? It's mainly for things like Internet TV, downloading from Sky etc and the odd transfer between PCs and to a NAS. Nothing potentially too demanding, other than backup and all the PCs are gigabit, I assume TVs are not.

Thanks in advance.

So something like this then?

Yes, but it is a lot bigger than it needs to be (physically). The HP V1410-16G for example is more elegant (but almost the price).

Do you need that many ports? Assuming the router has 4 ports a 8 port switch would give you 10 usable ports. There are some very cheap 8 port Gigabit desktop switches to choose from.
