Network Teaming

Hey guys,

I've always wondered why some motherboards have 2 Ethernet ports, then reading up i see you can do stuff like Network Teaming etc..

"allows two single connections to act as one single connection for twice the transmission bandwidth, making data transmission more effective"

Now my motherboard does not have 2 Ethernet ports,However i have a Killer Nic card lying around.

Would it be possible to set up this "Teaming" so i have 2 connections going to my pc from my Router making my internet experience better?

I know i wont get faster speeds,But what im looking for,Example i can be downloading something from steam and watching twitch at the same time.
If i do this the twitch stream keeps freezing..thats why i though "Teaming" might help..for a more effective connection.

I have a Virgin 160Mbps connection,I was just curious.

It won't improve the performance of the Internet connection. The LAN adapter is already faster than your Internet connection.

Sounds more like you have issues with your internet connection. I found Steam can hammer the connection very heavily when downloading, so I had to set a speed limit in the settings so it doesn't negatively affect everything else.

Might also be worth checking if you suffer from Virgin congestion during on peak times.

As already mentioned, it's more due to your internet connection, not your ethernet connection.

Just to check though, what motherboard do you have? I remember Killer software can cause chaos when prioritising certain network traffic.

Probably 90% of the time your existing network connection is bored with nothing to do. The rest of the time it might reach about 15% capacity.

As above, you'll see no difference unless you're maxing out gigabit lan connections to multiple local machines.

Currently teaming is very broken in Windows 10. Unusable with no sign of MS really doing anything :/

Sorry to bump this, just before I ask my own questions about it. Does this mean a 2 port to 2 port link between machines can't be configured to do the SMB 3 feature allowing double bandwidth?

Edit: oooo... it seems to work :o :D

Benchmarking an SSD over the network with crystaldisk and I get this:

There's 3 links between the 2 boxes, no other config was needed. 2 go via their own 5 port switch (I've thrown the last port up to the router, just to save messing setting up IP addresses etc) 1 goes direct via the router.

REJOICE \o/

It's only a crucial M4 SSD at the other end so.... understandable really.
