Which network topology would you use in these two types of networks?

Small office running Peer to Peer network

Medium to Big office running Server network

In every normal office environment you would use structured ethernet. So "Star" in GCSE computer language :p

This is a bit of an open ended question, it needs some context.

Small office running Peer to Peer network (Tight budget)

Even a home network consisting of a gateway and just two computers wouldnt be peer to peer these days, this is not the 90's, network equipment costs 5p.

And just what is a "server network"? :D

If this is what they are teaching children these days then i will have to keep my son away from any IT related courses at this level

It was what they were teaching 8 years ago when I did A levels. It was a test of "I've made up some technical terms, try guessing what they are". The exams seemed to be a test of how much rubbish you could manage to hand write in 90 minutes without any consequences if the answers you had written were contradictory.

Hey don't knock punched cards. At least if you suffered packet loss with them you just had to look on the floor and bingo.. lost packet retrieved :)

(My first IT job was in a place with punched cards. Yes I am that old.)

Actually OP, all my previous replies were lies. My favourite network is a sneakernet powered by Iomega PocketZip disks.
