Network USB Drive Transfer Rate

Can anyone help me understand why this is happening...

I have a Seagate USB 2.0 HDD connected to my Asus N66u which is being shared across the network.

Through my wired pcs connected to the router i get a 13MB/s transfer rate to the drive. Through the wireless pcs (N 2.4GHZ) connected, i only get about 1MB/s.

I would have thought the wireless throughput should be higher than 13MB/s right?

Where is the bottleneck?

I'm assuming you mean megabytes a second (MB/s) which is achievable over wireless but depends on many conditions. What speed does the wireless network say it's connected at?

Sorry yes - the laptop reports 177MB/s wireless connection.

Hi again,

Im really curious to know what you guys think may be going on here, as the lower throughput (i believe) is behind stuttering in HD content when streaming off the USB drive over the WiFi.

Windows reports 13 Mb/s from USB drive over LAN connection.
1Mb/s over wifi.

Any ideas?

Have only ever transferred files over wired lan to my hdd connected to the N66U and can confirm I get 13MB/s as well. Will try over wifi when I get back from work and let you know what I'm getting.
