Hi there,

I have 5 network drives mapped to a server. When I load 'My Computer' for the first time it takes ages for the drives to appear - this makes 'My computer' hang for a few minutes.

I have searched the net and have found this to be a solution:

Oddly enough it is a path problem, in an install of a device it goes through the device index first, a simple fix until you find the device, is to create a shortcut of “My Computer” to the desktop or in your folder. You have put the short cut on the first part of the index searches.

What does the above exactly mean? Is it as simple as creating a shortcut of 'My computer' to the desktop??

I would like to know the solution if any one has one.

Cheers.

PS. though this was better off in here than networks.

I'm not sure exactly what that fix means, but are your drives mapped by name or IP? if by name, you could try mapping the drives by IP address instead.

Are one of the drives pointing to a device that is turned off?

Nope, fraid not. Another collegue has the same setup and yet their computer is able to find the drives more or less instantly - like normal. They are on the same network as well. This tends to suggest something to do with the machine that they are using but they were setup and installed the same way.

Come to think about it one thing that may be slightly different is the panda anti-virus (tis a PITA that software) as sometime it doesnt fully install.

On a side note, may I thank you for your time you have spent trying to help me.
