i've got a desktop pc running vista 64 home premium and a laptop running vista 32 home premium and would like them to be networked the desktop is connected to the router by Ethernet cable and the laptop is wireless.
can anyone explain how i can do this or give me link, i need something that is fairlt straightforward as i'm not good with this sort of thing :D

are they both connected to the same router?

set the computername for each machine (in the system properties screen)

what are you trying to do? network them for gaming? (ie a lan match), or file sharing, or something else?

for file sharing, set the computernames, to something easy like 'desktop' and 'laptop'

note the username & password used for each machine -you may need them for logging in over the network if they're not the same

find a folder (or make one, say C:\shared) right click it, and select properties, sharing
use the basic steps to share the folder, then go to the other machine, and in windows explorer, type "\\laptop" -if you're on the desktop and you've shared a folder on the laptop

it's easier to show someone that to explain, once you've "got it" you'll remember it :)
