I'm a bit rusty on networks and was wondering what the cheapest way is to have a ps2 and pc both connected at the same time on an NTL cable connection. It's for my mate who currently just switches the network cable from his modem into his pc or ps2 depending on what he wants to use.

He wants to use both at the same time now and I was trying to think of the best way to do it, I'd suggest a wired router but how do I connect the modem to it?

Ntl cable into modem->cat 5 to internet port on router

Pc+PS2-> cat 5 into router.

:)

Easy enough lol, what router would you recommend, doesn't have to be anything special, just cheap!

I have a wireless netgear router seems ok, I have never used a wired router so I cannot really help, sorry. :)

Netgear RP614 Router - Retail (NW-008-NG) £28.14 Including VAT at 17.5%

May be ok check out some reviews.

Some people have had difficulty getting the 614 to go full speed on a 10mbit line, with the upcoming upgrades it may pay to consider something else witht he longer term view that an extra fiver spent now will allow you to take advantage of the next round of free speed upgrades. I've been pimping the Linksys WRT54GL-UK Wireless-G Broadband Router/4-Port Switch (NW-052-LS) a lot lately thanks to my love of DD-WRT (3rd part firmware that is nothing short of fantastic) but from what you've said it doesn't sound as though your mate needs anything overly complex. For the extra fiver i'd take the Linksys even with stock firmware.

The RPC614 is perfectly fine for me on 10MB...

Back on topic, he could probablly do a connection bridge, but a router is best. Besides in the future if he needs more ports it works out. Buying a router cheaper than 30 I dont think is wise.
