I work in IT and obviously have encountered print servers which will do the job just fine! But obvoiusly if this is an all in one i need to use the scanning and printing facilities as well as having it shared without having my main PC on.

I could get a ethernet 10/100 to USB print server (with Bi-Directional support)

Which would allow me to print to the device from any machine wirlessly or over a fixed connection. And also get messages about ink staus etc when required.

But then i would not be able to use the scanning function!

So question being, whats the best way of doing this....I only really need the scanning support on the main PC (where the printer is currently located).....

So....would this work

Getting a 2 port usb auto share switch
Connecting this to the printer and then one connection directly back to the main PC....So printing over normal USB for scanning also...

And then connecting the 2nd usb connection to the USB print server, and so it would auto switch when needed?

Will this solution work? Has anyone done something similar, or is there another far easier way to do this?

Worst comes to worst the main PC will pretty much always have to be on....

But any help would be appreciated!
