Hey guys,

Wireless in my house is very bad, will keep dropping out every few hours. BT did a bodge job on our telephone wiring so i cannot move my router to my room where the PC is.. so the only other option is to have a network cable running across the floor.

Now basically the other people in my house dont like the idea of a cable all over the floor, fair enough.

Does anyone have any cabling hints and tips so i can use this cable so it is out of the way, or know of anything else.

Thanks

Or run the cables up door frames and in top corners?

If they don't want cables on the floor, put em somewhere else :p

Network over mains does seem cool though

Just picked up a Powerline Ethernet thing as suggested from work.

How secure are they and i guess they work well with streaming/gaming at the same time and such, as my wireless kept dropping out if i did that, and do they work in power extension cables?

Thanks again.

Mine (Devolo 200MBPS) are password protected and fast enough for DVD playing to my media player - more secure than wifi

suggestions for wired approach if the eop doesn't work.

- take up floorboards and run underneath, cut out a socket in the wall (this was/is my approach)
- run behind the skirting board (drill a whole through to next room if it needs to go through a wall) and either use a socket like above or just cut a little tiny hole at the base of the skirting board (I did this approach with speaker cables)
