So, I am a real NooB to networking. I currently have a PC hardwired to an Orange router for internet access and a Macbook which I use for wireless access from the same route. I would like to be able to share the drives between the machines, but have to date been unsuccesul. I have attempted to set up a network and shared the drives etc but with no luck.

Can anyone point me in the right direction or a good linky to get me going?

Cheers

i am not an expert on macs in fact i have never used one but i dont think it is possible to share files between a mac and pc.

However i do have a funny feeling that someone is going to come on here and prove me wrong.

What file system does macbooks use?

If it was to pc's it would be simple but im sure there is a way of doing it

To get filesharing from a Mac working properly i had to use Sharepoints (google it)

It allows you to set up samba shares

The guide from iFelix is how I setup all my shares from macs to PC's.

No need to mess with sharepoints OS 10.3> has decent SAMBA support.

Just to comment on this - the file system a drive uses is irrelevant where network shares are concerned. An NTFS share would even be readable from a Windows 95 system for example.
