I am absolutely totally useless and a **** head at networking if it isn't plug and play and works.

Got a new printer and although is says it's connected it doesn't work.

I don't want advise and help for this problem as it will be wasting every ones time.

The only WiFi I have is from router so my question is-

Would I fare better by getting a wifi card and putting it in PC.

I just can't work it out -"full stop":confused::mad::mad:

Doubt it. If you can't get it working with a direct cable, it's unlikely introducing all the possible issues and necessary configuration of connecting it via wi-fi will be easier.

Even now, you're not really understanding what you're doing, because if your PC is connected to the router via a cable, and your printer is wi-fi enabled, it will talk to your PC via the router - wi-fi card in the PC is unnecessary.

Ok - It works fine with USB but it has Wifi then I wanted to use it as I have to drape USB lead across floor to printer.. - networking drives me nuts.

Thanks for the replies.

The Printer is a Canon MG6650'

I have uninstalled all canon software - been to Canon web site and downloaded latest drivers and software that I wanted.

Tried again by using WLAN settings - pressed WLan button on router and this time it didn't connect - it did last night - Next I tried manually - scrolled to BTHH and put in password - said it was connected -

Tried printing and it says Printer is not online.

Plugged USB lead in and it works fine - Just so annoying.

As I said in original post WiFi/network is my dumb subject - see my posts in Spec me a CCTV camera.- In end I did get cameras set up but not how I would have liked - So I think this is going same way - give me a month or two of poking and hoping - :D

The terminology will not sink into my head - It's my peanut brain in a bucket and any info just's miss's brain and comes out of the ears.:)

SORTED !!!!

Thanks to everyone who offered help - unfortunately I couldn't grasp the info- (I said I was useless)

Rang Canon help and I was nearly there - I had connected wirelessly by clicking into setting up BTHH - What I didn't know was you have to add a printer. - Because there was already a printer showing it never occurred to me you need to install one for USB and Wifi.

Pheeew sorted.
