I am trying to use my old computer as a NAS, I have them both wired to the same router, I have done everything possible in troubleshooting guides etc.

My problem is that I have 2 computers on network, one of them (b) can see the other (a) and can be accessed through network and I can browse files on other computer (a). The other computer (a) cannot see computer (b) at all in network section, so I cannot browse files normally. I think when I first set it up, the computer could see the other one (b) in network, now it cannot and everything I have tried (about 6 hours now probably) I just cannot get computer (a) to see computer (b) in network, but computer (b) can see computer (a) no problems.

BUT computer (a) can see computer (b) when using homegroup, It can then see it there, but NOT in network so I cannot browse folders normally, only with homegroup which is very basic and not what I want. I can also ping computer (b) from computer (a), but I just CANNOT see it in network in file explorer, I have tried everything I can think of and am close to giving up and just using homegroup or installing freeNAS.

Can anyone help me please I would very much appreciate it! This is getting very irritating now because it does not make sense!

The only functionality I want is to just be able to browse both computers using file explorer and to be able to transfer files across etc.

If you are wanting a NAS then you're better off installing a dedicated NAS operating system on it.

With your current setup do UNC paths work? (link)

Using the paths in file explorer is ok yes I can then see all of the folders, but I cannot see the other computer in "network". I have no idea why.

Can you tell me any way I can view my drives in network?

Do you think I should install freenas on a USB drive and use that instead of windows?

Hm I have found a decent solution then, I used the UNC address and pinned it to quick access, now I can access that easily enough from the file explorer, actually that is 1 click less than using network. Thanks for mentioning the UNC address that has not completely fixed the problem of the computer not seeing the other computer in networking but at least I can view the folders easily now thanks.
