Hey guys, i want to connect to a friend who lives just under/over 300m's away and slapping a cable along the floor isnt the answer, so whats the best way for us to connect to each other to allow gaming between the 2 and file sharing?

Thanks.

thats quite an awkward distance! you could always set up a vpn between the 2 machines? have a read up about them.

do you have line of sight without loads of stuff in the way?

Well funny you should say that.

A while ago, i used to house a 30 person wireless broadband service from my loft before BT came to the area and he was a customer. I didn't setup the service, just housed the equipment due to the location of my house.

I still have this huge pole with an antenna on that connected to a Linksys wireless access point.

surely 300m is still pushing it even with an antenna on top.
VPN may be your best bet.

Directional is good for a mile or more. Unidirectional should still be fine for 500m or so depending on the power obviously.

I can only comment on the Cisco wireless kit they design specially for this sort of thing, it works pretty well these days, a lot better than it used to be but tend to use it as a backup link only. Obviously it's very expensive so you'll likely be doing this with home kit.
