I have broadband provided in my room via ethernet connection.

I have set up my macbook to share this wired internet via wifi, so my phone can access it.

Is there any way this setup could be knocking out the internet to the whole building (not sure of behind the scenes set up, but ethernet ports in every room) occasionally? We've had very patchy internet these last few days, they're claiming a router plugged in to an ethernet port somewhere is causing it. I can't see how my macbook sharing the internet via it's own wifi, which is not altering anything server side at all, could be doing this....

Any ideas?

They should be able to tell exactly which port this is happening on and shut it down if they are even basic network monkeys. Sounds like BS.
