Hi all,

I remember reading about being able to create networks using the electrical systems in your house.

I was wondering if I setup a PC file storing all my films, music etc on would I be able to conenct that PC and my 360 through the electrics? And would I be able to also at that PC to my existing network?

OcUK sells the things you are talking about, you can see them here: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=46&catid=800

What they do is simply plug into an electrical socket and provide a socket that you can attach a network cable to. So you would connect a network cable between your PC and a powerline adapter, and another between your 360 and another adapter elsewhere in your house. Its just like a noormal home network, but instead of using network cables to a switch or hub the network cables connect to the powerline adapters which make the house wiring act like a hub.

So could I use one powerline adapter for the 360 but then use the second to connect directly to my Netgear DG834G and connect the server PC to the netgear. Thus allowing the 360 to have internet access and access to the other PC's on the network?

Or do the powerline adapters change the way we would connect to the internet?

What you described should work fine. With a router or modem pluged into a powerline adapter, a device plug into another adapter will work similar to if its pluged directly into the router (although at a slower speed then using a network cable directly)

I haven't used them myself, so am not sure how well they work if you place the adapters on seperate ring circuits, you will have to wait for someone who has them to respond to this thread.

I have tried the 200Mbit Netgear Units , they are now gathering dust on my shelf

The speed is too variable , I ended up going back to Cat5e
