I'm going to uni this weekend and am leaving a computer at home. This computer will be on so I want to be able to control it while I am at uni. How can I do this? Both the computer I will be controlling and the computer I will use to control it are behind firewalls.

Using the remote desktop utility woul be fine (using it at the mo to monitor the computer) but I don't know how to connect via the internet.

Take it with you? :p, tbh, you're probably never going to use it much.

Its noisy unfortunaly so its relegated to the loft, it in no way is going anywhere near my uni bedroom! It also runs BOINC (seti etc) so is being used all the time. ;)

Remote software is your only answer to be honest, although you might struggle to use it through a uni firewall as they tend to block a lot of ports so I have heard. I use remote administrator to control my downloading rig in my house and it works perfectly.

I am in a house with 4 others not halls luckily (and i'm the only one that knows how to fiddle with the router :D ) so the router will not be an issue. What is remote administrator?

logmein.com

I just tried this and it doesnt seem to want to install. I can't get it to connect when I enter my details in the installation. At the moment it is networked through this computer so I will try a direct connection.

All this stuff is going way over my head. Unfortunatly I don't have a static IP (although it is as good as static atm)

Logmein is probably the easiest if i can get it to work as it liiks like they do all the hard work which is a plus.
