Networking troubles, New adapter?

My room is at one end and the router is all the way at the opposite end of the flat. I am renting so I don't want to be messing about. Unless I end up leaving the cable on the floor, which is unorganised.
Wanted to update this thread.
My TP-Link AC600 came today and I have just installed it.
Oh my what a difference from my old wireless dongle!!!
6.5 MB/s download from steam. Exactly the same speed when I tried to do tests using Ethernet.
Speed test are coming up the same as wired too.
