I've got a Virgin Media Superhub and a Linksys router with DD WRT installed.

Currently the Superhub sits next to my TV downstairs and I've plugged in my PS3, TV, Tivo box and a cat 5e cable running upstairs to my PC.

Is it possible that instead of plugging the the cat 5e cable into the PC I plug it into my Linksys router then run two more cables from that, one to the PC and one to a second Tivo box so that the Superhub can see the PC and the second box as separate devices on the network?

I've tried it and although both devices can get an ip address the Superhub just sees the router as a device. Plus it halves the connection speed to the PC.

I don't have a switch.

Edit: I've found a guide on how to set up dd wrt as a switch so will try it out later. :)

Well I managed to set the router up as a switch and all is well. :)

Except that now I can't access the settings of the dd wrt router for some reason and I want to turn the wireless radio back on.

How can I find out the ip of the dd wrt router? I've tried ipconfig /all and it doesn't show up.

You should have manually configured it with a suitable management IP when you configured it as a switch.

Buying a switch would be much simpler.

For the last time I'm not buying a switch when I've already got a router that will do the same job!!! :D

I gave it the IP 192.168.0.2.

My main router is 192.168.0.1 and all other devices are allocated 3 upwards.

I don't know why it's not showing up but it doesn't really matter I suppose as all my cabled connections are working fine. I just thought I'd use it as a wireless extender but can't be bothered resetting it to turn the radio back on.

Where are you expecting it to 'show up'?

If it's sitting there just working as a switch you'll never know it's there (unless you deliberately access it via a web browser using its IP address).

I'm expecting it to show up in my web browser when I'm deliberately trying to access it using it's IP address.

Just buy a switch. A decent enough 100mbps one is under £7.

Why people insist on using routers as network extenders I'll never know.
