Hi

I have purchased Vista, will a home network between Xp and Vista be easy to setup?

I currently have 2 rigs XP setup to share net connection and certain folders.

Thanks

My XP machines can acess the media files on my Vista machine, but not vise versa.
I cannot for the life of me get Vista to see any other shares on the network :(

Turn Network Discovery on in Network & Sharing Center?

What happens, is it rejecting the username and pass? or just can't see it period?

It sees the other pc's, but will not let me access it at all, as if those pc's have nothing to share

I can access and transfer files to my other XP machine from Vista by manually typing in its IP and going in by that way, is this what you guys mean? Or am I on about something else?

i have a problem with vista accessing the share on my NAS, i enter the same username/password as on my XP box, but it gets rejected. its not the access to the share as i have 2 shares on the linkstation and cant get to either of them.

i can access it from my XP box and from the vista box i can access the XP administrative shares (not tried XP-->vista yet) --any ideas where im going wrong?

I can't set up sharing at all. I tried enabling all sorts of settings in the Network Center thingy, but I can't get my girlfriend's XP machine (on the network) to find the files at all. It won't even connect. Nor will my machine connect to hers.

Ah well, at least one thing hasn't changed in XP-Vista, and that's the balls File Sharing.

I just had to do this when trying to connect to my MacBook:

Control Panel\System and Maintenance\Administrative Tools
Local Security Policy

Local Policies \ Security Options

LAN Manager Authentication Level

Send LM & NTLM

Basically, whenever I tried to log into the MacBook using the right credentials, Vista would add on my computer name as if it was a domain - e.g. in the username field, it would add [Computer Name]/[what I entered]. Doing the above seemed to work for me.

I may be having the same type of issue.

I am able to access files from an XP pc, but I cannot share out printers from the Vista pc, even to another Vista pc. If the other Vista pc tries to add my shared printers, it will hard crash my Vista pc. The crash is progressive over a few minutes with first the Host Process for Windows Services going down - which crashes everything else.

All sounds very bizarre.

I have XP/2003/Vista PCs here and haven't encountered a single problem in accessing files in any fashion.

Weird, it's the other way round for me. My Vista machine can access the XP one but the XP one can't access the Vista machine. This is fine since I've only networked them to copy files but it is a bit odd.

another one here with that problem,
i transfer files from my laptop (xp) downstairs to my desktop (vista) upstairs but can only pull them off via vista, i can't send them via xp!
