I've come across this problem before myself. Try going to Start > Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Network and Sharing Center. Click on Choose HomeGroup and Sharing Options, then Change Advanced Sharing Settings.
Under the Home or Work category, make sure Network Discovery, File and Printer Sharing, and Public Folder Sharing are set to 'on'. Under Password Protected Sharing, make sure it is set to OFF. Finally make sure you've allowed Windows to manage the HomeGroup and sharing. Like this:
If you still can't access the computer in question, try rebooting both. But so far, this has solved the issue for me. Password protected sharing basically requires the remote PC to also have an account on your PC, which isn't what you want when you're just sharing files on your home LAN. I hope this works for you.
Yer that kinda worked...well for 1 files transfer. I then shut my laptop's top down and then opened it again. Tried to access the network and its playing up again.
This is very annoying, something so simple yet iam wasting all evening trying to sort it
Sorry, that's as clever as I go If it stopped working after a sleep/hibernate (closed laptop) perhaps a service hasn't woken properly or something? Are you using a 3rd party firewall or similar? Just some food for thought, I'm stuck now. Good luck.
